Minn Kota – The Quality Standard for Bow-Mount Electric Motors

The electric motor market offers plenty of options – but only one brand still serves as the benchmark for the entire category. Minn Kota is the cornerstone of transom- and bow-mount electric motors, with innovative solutions and a long history of electric motor development that continue to make it the top choice for many sport anglers. Since 1934, Minn Kota has been pushing development forward, and this is especially evident in the company’s latest Quest series, which sets a new standard in bow-mount motor innovation and quality.

The Quest series brings new features that make everyday use on the water easier while also providing the most powerful and efficient option on the market – even for larger boat classes. It represents the peak of Minn Kota’s long-term product development, designed for heavy use and demanding conditions – exactly where anglers fishing from a boat need extreme precision, durability, and power.

At the heart of these motors is the new brushless 24/36V Dual Motor, which offers up to 30% longer runtime per charge. At the same time, torque has increased by as much as 50%, giving anglers a clear advantage when holding position in strong currents or windy open waters. The most rugged shaft construction on the market, reinforced with carbon fiber, provides extra torsional stiffness, and the redesigned propeller is optimized to handle the increased power while cutting efficiently through heavy vegetation.

Smart Control: One-Boat Network and Drift Mode

Minn Kota hasn’t only focused on raw power – user interface and control have also taken a major leap forward. The One-Boat Network system allows multiple devices to be controlled from a single remote or directly from a fishfinder screen. The redesigned remote enables waypoint saving, autopilot operation, and shallow-water anchor control – all at the push of a button.

Of special interest to anglers is the Drift Mode, which allows the boat to move in a controlled manner along a set course, automatically compensating for wind and current. If an obstacle appears along the way, the Dodge function lets you make a quick detour – before returning automatically to the original path.

In addition, Quest models feature a real-time battery status display and an automatic power-saving mode that activates when battery charge drops below 20%.

Service and Support – Part of the Minn Kota Promise

In Finland, Minn Kota is imported and supported by Comstedt Finland Oy, which also represents other well-known brands such as Humminbird fishfinders and Cannon downriggers. Comstedt provides professional servicing, technical advice, and comprehensive spare parts support – even for older Minn Kota models.

Comstedt’s service manager, Janne Nisu, reminds users that many problems with bow- or transom-mount motors often stem from the boat’s electrical system or the battery’s condition.

“Often, the motor itself is working perfectly, but issues like low battery voltage can cause malfunctions. Regular maintenance and following the manufacturer’s instructions are key to long-lasting, trouble-free operation,” says Nisu.
