The radar range specifies the distance over which objects will show on the radar screen and the beam width measures the resolution of the radar antenna. Range is an important feature for larger vessels, as it allows for more time to react to objects that are further away. In pleasure boating, the resolution of the radar may be a more important feature. Good resolution can keep you safe from collisions with other boaters when moving through narrow lanes in the fog. The smaller the horizontal angle of a radar, the better its resolution is.
