Roughly speaking, the heavier your lure, the more rigidity is required from the rod. This can be seen directly in the recommended lure sizes. For example, the recommended lure size for rods designed for perch jigging is 3–25 grams. For a sturdier pike rod, the recommendation is 50–120 grams and up. Baitcasting rods include a lot of one-piece rods instead of the more traditional two-piece models. The style of the rod is always specified in the product information.
