Typical use
Designed originally for marine use, but due to its compact size and light weight the flare is well-suited for all types of outdoor use. The smaller size of the Odeo Distress version makes it perfect for mountaineering, skiing, paddling, exploring, etc. Eliminates the need to carry emergency torches and thus the risk of forest fires etc. The compact and waterproof (IP68 50m) Odeo Distress is also ideal for diving.
Power source
Odeo Distress uses 4 L91 lithium or 4 alkaline batteries. These batteries have a long storage period and their capacity and thermal resistance enable long battery life in even the most extreme conditions.
Conformance and standards
Odeo Distress was designed to meet the SOLAS requirements, which makes it is an excellent alternative to traditional flares. Today, the United States Coast Guard is the leading developer of the eVDSD standards (Electronic Visual Distress Signal Device). These devices are used to replace traditional pyrotechnical flares. The Odeo Distress Flare™ also outputs an SOS signal during its flash pattern as described in Annex 4 to COLREGS and is thus an internationally recognized distress signal.
