Closed-face reels are designed particularly for beginners. They are also quite popular among children and youths due to their ease of use. The line is protected by the reel casing and may not get twisted and tangled as easily as with spinning reels, for example. On the other hand, many experienced anglers recommend bypassing closed-face reels entirely and starting out with a spinning reel or baitcasting reel.
