Paavo Korpua and Paavo Putila had been keen anglers and good friends since their youth. The only thing missing from their hobby was a selection of lure designs that met their expectations. The solution was simple and typical of the time: they began making the lures they wanted to fish with themselves. The lures proved highly effective well beyond Kuusamo, and eventually the two friends were able to realise their dream and establish their own company, Kuusamon Uistin Oy, in 1967. As fishing is an activity enjoyed in nature, it also has an impact on the environment. Kuusamo Uistin considers fishing a highly valuable and meaningful pastime, with significant positive effects for anglers and the wider economy. At the same time, fishing should be practised responsibly and in accordance with the principles of sustainable development. Kuusamo Uistin has developed its manufacturing process so that potentially harmful substances handled during production are not released into the environment. All residues generated during the process are collected and sent to appropriate facilities for proper treatment. The raw materials and other materials used in production are also selected so that finished Kuusamo Uistin lures do not release harmful substances into the environment.
