Poppers and surface lures

Popperss are surface lures designed to splash water as they move at high speed. Surface lures have traditionally been thought of as pike lures, but they are becoming increasingly popular among those going after other species as well. In fact, poppers are also great for salmonids and perch. You should also try a popper in the rapids for trout and for perch in the shallows on a hot summer's day. The basic rule regarding speed is the same as with other lures: faster movement in warm water and for active fish, slow down in colder water and occasionally stop the retrieve all together.
