Jyri from Kalastajan Kanava wanted an update for a lure and reached out to Rapala to inquire if it would be possible to get a lure with a transparent body. Curiosity pays off, as Rapala's Jari Kokkonen immediately contacted the product development team to inquire about the possibility, and it turned out to be feasible. Jyri provided the following instructions for the lure's color scheme.
The Kalastajan Kanava 1 assortment includes colors for clear water:
• Olive Minnow (OLM) – Transparent body, olive green back, sides with black and lilac-toned crystals, and a bit of silver glitter, yet keeping the lure translucent.
• Silver Time (SLVT) – Transparent body, black back, and sides with plenty of silver glitter, yet keeping the lure translucent.
• Thunder Black (THDB) – Transparent body, heavily blue and silver glitter on a black base.
With its tall side-profile and almost coin-like shape, Rapala's Rippin’ Rap plug is an extremely versatile and easy-to-use lure for perch and pike fishing in particular, but all other predators are also happy to take a bite out of it. The lure swims with a tight, vibrating pattern that is spiced up by the rattler beads. You can feel the forceful action right up to the tip of your rod, and an interruption in the action is often an indication of a perch bite even if the fish does not get hooked. This makes Rippin’ Rap an excellent indicator lure that allows you to see that there are perch in the area that you might otherwise not spot. These qualities make Rippin’ Rap an excellent option for both competitive anglers and more casual fishing enthusiasts. And with good results!
Casting: The lipless lure sinks quite fast, thus allowing you to quickly cover a specific area (such as the edge of a reed patch). Once you have located the perch, stop the boat and focus on catching them. You can utilize the sinking body of Rippin’ Rap in targeting different water layers. If you begin the retrieve as Rippin’ Rap hits the water, you can fish near the surface. If, on the other hand, you allow the lure to sink down 2 meters, for example, you can target fish that lie deeper.
Trolling: Rapala's Rippin’ Rap is effective for perch and pike but also salmonids. When trolling under motor power, Rippin’ Rap should swim next to or below the propeller wake. The tight, vibrating action is distinct from the swirling water, attracting the attention of salmonids as well.
