Marttiini's stainless steel is an easy-to-maintain blade material that retains its sharpness for a long time. The chromium content in the steel alloy is 13%, and the hardness is 53.5-55 Rockwell units (HRC). A diamond sharpener is recommended for sharpening chromium steel.
The traditional handle material for Finnish knives is curly birch. The raw material comes from Finland's curly birch belt, located in central Finland. The flame-like pattern of curly birch makes it an excellent handle material for knives because it is both durable and beautiful. This beautifully patterned curly birch is limited on the market and therefore significantly more expensive than regular birch.
Marttiini's knife sheaths are made from either vegetable-tanned or chrome-tanned ox leather. The leather hides are sourced from both Europe and South America. The sheaths are made in both natural and dyed leather. The knife sheaths are still largely handmade. Each sheath must be the exact right size and shape to fit the knife perfectly. The leather is cut out with a template, and the seams are glued before being sewn together.
